International Forum of Design as a Process

Unisinos - Somos infinitas possibilidades
The Latin Network for the Development of Design Processes is an informal group or network of researchers and university professors who study and operate in the particular branch of design known as design processes.
The network deals with design particularly in reference to the existing relationships between countries of Latin origin and language.
Members are interested in studying the creation value of design as a process and also as a product in an open relationship between Latin design cultures and other cultures.
Members of the Latin Network for the Development of Design Processes benefit (and self-finance) from meeting personally in a regular forum. This forum allows them to exchange, to debate and to discuss their studies and experiences. The forum is conceived as a thematic conference and it takes place within the university of one of the members.
The first meeting was held in Turin in 2008, it represented the foundation of the Latin Network and the writing of the cultural programme/manifesto called the “Carta di Torino”. In 2009 the Forum was held for the first time, with the theme “Design Cultures as Models of Biodiversity” and it took place at the Escola de Design of Unisinos in Porto Alegre (Brazil).
The second Forum was held at the Universidade de Aveiro (Portugal) in 2010; it was called “Design, Art, Craft: Cross-fertilizations and Experiences”.
The third Forum was hosted by the Politecnico di Torino (Italy), on the subject “Innovation in Design Education”.
The fourth Forum was held in Belo Horizonte (Brazil) during the Brazilian Design Biennial, where the Forum was a guest of the Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais (UEMG). The title of this fourth meeting was “Diversity: Design/Humanities”.
Since 2010, the Forum has established a call for abstracts open to the international scientific community: in 2012, 201 proposals were submitted. Since 2011, the Design Processes Award has been introduced.
Finally, since 2012, the Forum has established a process of blind peer review for the selection of abstracts, thanks to a system governed by a web platform.
The Latin Network has benefited from the support of a website that it is no longer available and a scientific journal “Strategic Design Research Journal” from Brazilian University Unisinos
