Design is all about “hands-on”. However, younger designers, students or graduates, totally forget the real – material world, designing and building only at virtual environments.
For me , good design is the smart combination of material and virtual worlds.
At University we used to build cardboards models of hydraulic jacks and saw tables.
If you have been there, you know how harder is to built and present a fine and professional cardboad model. It demands a set of skills that maybe younger design generations don´t know or worst, don´t use it anymore.
Remember that technology is only a tool to help you achieve good design, but it is not the “good design” itself or the guarantee of good design at the end.
Bad design is always bad design, no matter the platform you have used for it!
To young generations, forget all the “Cads” and “Cams” for a while and play a little bit with cardboard.
